Kansas City, MO. (Sept 20. 2011)–Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City has added a new presence in the community by lighting up the night skyline with blue lights. The blue lights now visually link the Crossroads District and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City to the downtown area. The enhanced company logo can be seen across town, a reminder of its history in the community for more than 70 years.

To support the company's commitment to minimize its carbon footprint, the new lights function on an astronomical timer, automatically adjusting to the sunrise and sunset without needing readjustment. The lights are not kept on through the whole night as an energy savings means. This is just one method by which Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City looks for ways to reduce energy expenses tied to lighting usage.

"We hope that the blue lights and brighter logo serve as a symbol of stability in Kansas City," explained David Gentile, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Not only does the lighting create a more visually appealing area, the presence it provides our offices are a reminder that we are a permanent resident and advocate of the community."
