Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City Receives J.D. Power and Associates Award

Kansas City, MO--May 3, 2012 – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) received the prestigious honor of "Highest Member Satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in the Heartland Region" by J.D. Power and Associates.

"This award comes directly from the members we serve every day," said David Gentile, President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue KC. "The health and wellbeing of our members is at the core of how we run our business. It is excellent our members feel we are consistent in serving their individual needs."

More than 2,000 insurance customers in the Heartland region (Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa) provided the feedback to J.D. Power and Associates 2012 U.S. Member Health Plan Study^SM. Rankings were based on seven criteria: provider choice, coverage and benefits, claims processing, customer service, statements, information and communication, and approval processes.

Nationwide, J.D. Power and Associates rated 141 health plans in 17 regions. In 2012, overall member satisfaction averages 702 on a 1,000-point scale, compared with 696 in 2011. However, the average score in the Heartland region was 691, down from 698 a year ago.

Blue KC received a score of 722 out of 1,000 with particularly high scores in the categories of information and communication, approval process and claims processing.
